Letter: Please help us with HOPE

Health Savings Accounts, or HSAs, are a great vehicle for saving money for medical expenses. Still, many individuals do not have the right kind of insurance or an employer to offer it to them.

The Health Out of Pocket Expense or “HOPE” Act is looking to change this.

It is a bipartisan effort targeted to low- and moderate-income people that would create personal savings accounts available to more than 100 million Americans currently struggling to afford medical costs not covered by health insurance. Imagine a world in which health care doesn’t bankrupt a person or family. HOPE accounts are a step in that direction.

I hope our leaders in Congress and Rep. Kevin Hern will consider it a priority for the final reconciliation package.

Doing so would demonstrate a strong commitment to the health and economic well-being of Tulsans, and it would deliver meaningful support to the millions of Americans who simply cannot afford to wait any longer for relief.
